Solar carports in Europe: one product, several markets

Car park solarisation is growing across Europe, under different rules and climates. A standard product must adapt without being redesigned.

France

The APER law requires half of outdoor car parks above 1,500 m² to be shaded by solar canopies, with deadlines in 2026 and 2028. It is the most structured short-term market. SUUN runs three of its first four projects there.

Germany

Several federal states, including Baden-Württemberg, require solar on new car parks above a given number of spaces. The market is mature and demanding on quality. SUUN runs a project in Achern with Groupe FEHR.

Italy

High irradiation and strong demand for summer shade make canopies particularly relevant, for comfort as well as generation. Italy is one of SUUN’s target markets.

Sweden and the Nordics

Snow loads, frost and a low sun call for robust structures and suitable tilts. That is the role of the Nordic option of the Suun Light offer. Sweden is one of the target markets.

One standard, national annexes

The Eurocodes provide a common design framework; each country sets its parameters in a national annex (wind, snow, safety). The 30 m module stays the same; its checks and options change from one country to another. SUUN works with developers and EPCs already active in each market.

Frequently asked questions

Does SUUN work outside France?

Yes. A first project is under way in Germany; Italy and Sweden are target markets, with local partners.

Does the same product work under snow?

The module is the same; the Nordic option and checks under the national annex adapt the structure to snow loads.
