Solar canopies for logistics platforms and HGV parking

Logistics sites have huge outdoor areas, and the toughest constraints: trucks, manoeuvres, continuous operations. Every column counts.

Constraints on a logistics site

  • Clear height: HGVs need far more clearance than cars, around 4.5 m or more depending on vehicles.
  • Turning: articulated truck manoeuvres need areas free of obstacles.
  • Impacts: every support is a collision risk to protect.
  • Continuous operations: the site does not stop during works.
clear heightContinuous span, no column in manoeuvring areas
Principle: cars and HGVs under one span

Why long spans matter here

On HGV parking, removing rows of columns frees manoeuvres and reduces collision risk. A 30 m span lets supports sit at row ends or in islands, out of vehicle paths.

A real case: Châteauneuf-sur-Isère

At the Groupe FEHR site in Châteauneuf-sur-Isère (Drôme, France), SUUN has designed a 250 kWp installation covering 70 HGV spaces and part of the industrial site, with deployment planned for Q3 2027. See the projects.

Energy and fleets

Platforms consume during the day (cooling, lighting, forklifts) and are electrifying their fleets. The canopy becomes local generation and a support for charging light and heavy vehicles.

Frequently asked questions

What clear height for HGVs?

It is set with the operator according to the vehicles and safety envelopes. It is far higher than for a car park.

Can works proceed without stopping the site?

Yes, by phasing zone by zone. Prefabrication and few supports reduce the area closed at each phase.
