Snow and wind: how the Eurocodes size a solar carport
A carport is a large, light surface exposed to the weather. Wind and snow, far more than panel weight, size its structure and foundations.

The framework: EN 1990 and EN 1991
The Eurocodes set the basis of design (EN 1990) and the actions to consider (EN 1991), including snow (EN 1991-1-3) and wind (EN 1991-1-4). Each country sets its values in a national annex: zone maps, altitude, terrain categories.
Wind: uplift first
An open canopy takes pressure and suction on both faces. Wind can press it down but above all lift it: that case often sizes foundations and anchors. Site, height, terrain roughness and nearby obstacles all enter the calculation.
Snow: loads and drifts
Snow load depends on zone and altitude and applies with shape coefficients. Drifts against an obstacle or unbalanced loads can govern over the uniform load. In Nordic or mountain climates they become decisive.

At SUUN
The 30 m module is checked to the Eurocodes and each site’s national annex, with Atelier Masse. The Suun Light Nordic option strengthens the structure for heavy snow. Request the structural principles.
Frequently asked questions
Does one product work everywhere?
The module stays the same; its checks and, if needed, reinforcements change with the site’s loads.
Does a carport need clearing of snow?
A carport designed for the site’s snow load does not need clearing for stability; operators may do it for output or user safety.
